President’s Report – May 2018

The merry, merry month of May is here! During the month of May, we are encouraging the community to SHOP CHAMBER FIRST! Please have your customers and clients bring their receipts to the chamber office to be part of the drawings to win some fun and exciting prizes!

We had a wonderful April, filled with events, seminars and networking opportunities! We had the most successful and most attended Music Trivia to date, sponsored again by SSM DePaul Health Center and DJ’d by our one and only Big Papa G! New this year was a photobooth by Delmar Gardens and our judges were St. Louis Ambush players Hewerton Moreira, Jerjer Gibson and Rob Acosta! You won’t want to miss next year’s fun and games and food and prizes! Thanks to the Chair of the event Adam Howell and committee members Bret Berigan, Dana Grimm, Darla Tinker, Mike Moehlenkamp and Tom Gilliland.  A special thank you to our volunteers: Dr. Elizabeth Perkins, Jon Vogt, Bill Morrison, Joe Jenkins and all the family and friends that helped set up or break down.  We couldn’t have pulled off this successful event without you!

In April, we held our 2018 Legislative Luncheon hosted by SSM DePaul Health Center.  Our legislators came to talk to us about the committees and bills they are working on.  Thank you to board member Kim Bakker for allowing us to hold this at SSM DePaul Health Center’s May Room.  Also, thank you to board member Rick Dorsey that moderated the luncheon.  Legislators able to attend were Senator Gina Walsh, Representative Gretchen Bangert, Representative Alan Gray, Representative Alan Green, Representative Mark Matthiessen, and Representative Jay Mosley.  We look forward to our 2019 Legislative Luncheon!

We were also delighted to present our 2018 Scholarship award winners their monies during our April Luncheon.  The awardees were truly amazing young individuals! Congratulations to Matthew Gantner, Trinity Catholic High School; Damon Hines, Hazelwood Central High School; Madison Knight, Hazelwood West High School; Megan Pilla, Incarnate Word Academy; Henry Tommy Woods, McCluer North High School; Jaelin Patterson, Hazelwood Central High School; and Florissant Valley Jaycees awardee Makaiya Smith, McCluer South-Berkeley High School.  Specials thanks to our Chair Halina Conti and the amazing committee that reads through 80 applicants in January!

Congratulations again to Derick Wellman, owner of Amore Pizza for being our April Ambassador for the month! Derick attends all the Chamber’s ribbon cuttings, volunteers at events, greets new members, and promotes the Chamber to other business! If you are interested in becoming an Ambassador, please reach out to the chamber office at 314-831-3500

Keep an eye out for us during the City of Florissant’s Valley of Flowers parade this Sunday! We will be celebrating “100 Years of the Muny” with our very own Chamber Stars! Thank you to Johnny Londoff Chevrolet, the Bridge at Florissant and Gary’s Auto for helping us bring our “Meet Us At the Chamber” theme to life!

Sign up now for the “Top 10 Things You Need To Know for Your Business From a Lawyer” seminar with attorney Rick Dorsey.  It’s free and space is limited! Tuesday, May 22nd from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Chamber office at 420 W Washington in Florissant.
