President’s Report – August 2020

And then there’s August, my friends… the Sunday of Summer.  The children are sun-kissed and ready for the first days of school (whether physically or virtually).  How did we blink and 2020 is almost gone? never really starting, keeping us on edge.  I’ve bought my 2021 planner; I’ve got some high hopes that it won’t go to waste like my 2020 planner did ?

As our Chamber battles through this pandemic, we continue to find creative ways to keep our members engaged, informed, and connected.  Thank you to all those that have been able to attend our in-person events, from our Membership luncheons to Business After Hours to our Music Trivia and Golf tournament.

And a very special thanks to our amazing volunteers and the Florissant Golf course, that made the event so successful and safe in the middle of uncertainty.  Thank you again to Jaime and Danielle, who work their butts off to make it a memorable event!

We’ve been so fortunate to be able to safely meet, implementing social distancing guidelines and requiring masks at in-person events.  As we navigate through this ever-changing pandemic, we have decided to postpone our upcoming Scholarship Bowl and cancel our Career Fair; and once again begin meetings via Zoom.

Sign up now for our Zoom Member on Wednesday, August 19th at 11:30 a.m.  We will be hearing from St. Louis County Partnership’s Human Resource Director, Samuel Fredeking.  He will talk about hiring practices during this difficult time. And even though, we are not 100% sure if our children will ever go back to physical school, we are still taking BACK TO SCHOOL donations.  Please drop them off to the Chamber office by the garage door.  Thank you in advance!

I leave you with this quote from Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  Best of luck to all our students, parents, school districts and private schools as we navigate through these uncharted waters! I hope you have a very inspiring and successful new school year.
