President’s Report – May 2019
The merry, merry month of May is here! We had a wonderful April, filled with events, seminars and networking opportunities! We had the most successful and most attended Music Trivia to date, sponsored again by SSM DePaul Health Center and DJ’d by our one and only Big Papa G! You won’t want to miss next year’s fun and games and food and prizes! Thanks to the Chair of the event Adam Howell and committee members Tom Gilliland, Bret Berigan, Dana Grimm, Jon Vogt, and Scott Palermo. A special thank you to our volunteers: Derek Wellman, Courtney Wellman, Srgt. David Upchurch, Jon Vogt, Anna Marie Dorelien, Rebecca Zoll, Sharon Cotner, Joe Jenkins and all the family and friends that helped set up or break down. We couldn’t have pulled off this successful event without you! A HUGE shout to Jaime Jenkins and Danielle Berliner for all their hard work and creativity! We have a GROOVY TEAM at the Chamber!
We were also delighted to present our 2019 Scholarship award winners their monies during our April Luncheon. The awardees were truly amazing young individuals! Congratulations to Gbemisola Fadeyi, Hazelwood East High School; Gracemary Nganga, Hazelwood West High School; Jennifer Tenholder, Hazelwood West High School; Payton Woodruff, McCluer North High School; Desirae Yost, Hazelwood West High School; Danielle Jones, Riverview Gardens School District; and the Florissant Jaycees awarded Sally Gacheru from Hazelwood West High School. Specials thanks to our Chair Halina Conti and the amazing committee that reads through 80 applicants in January!
Keep an eye out for us during the City of Florissant’s Valley of Flowers parade this Sunday! We will be celebrating “100 Years of the Florissant Fire Protection District” with our very own Queen Candidate Hannah Crowder from Hazelwood West! Thank you to Johnny Londoff Chevrolet’s Kitty Harrison, and Gary’s Auto’s Mike Moehlenkamp for helping us bring our “Saint Loretta Academy” Float to life! We’ve had an awesome float committee! Thanks to Kitty Harrison, Mike Moehlenkamp, Julie Berthold, and Jon Vogt! Saint Loretta Academy was an all-girls Catholic school house that burned down in the winter of 1919, Florissant neighbors came together to try to put out the fire but was unable to do so, nearby cities with fire houses came to help but sadly, the schoolhouse was lost. The Florissant Fire Protection District was then created to prevent such catastrophes from happening again and this year, we celebrate their hundred years of service to the community!
