Chair’s Letter – July 2021
“I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy. Yankee Doodle do or die. A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam, born on the Fourth of July.” George M. Cohan may have written and sung those words, but he was actually born on the 3rd of July. As we turn the calendar to July. We can look back to a very successful first half of the year for the Chamber.
As I mentioned last month, our Golf Tournament was sold out. We had over 150 golfers in attendance, the most ever for out Tournament. We had incredible support from our sponsors. Congratulations to our Golf Committee and a big thank you to our hard-working staff. It was exciting to see it all come together.
After having some sort of event every month, so far, I would like to say that we were giving the staff a breather, but it isn’t so. Plans are already under way for our Scholarship Bowl on August 5 at Crest Bowl. As you know, this event provides the funds for our Scholarships to deserving high school seniors in our service area. Since the Scholarship program began, we have been able to give out nearly $100,000.00. You can help keep this moving forward. Sign up your team or purchase a sponsorship today. Just call the Chamber Office.
Business After Hours this month will be on the 8th at Catering to You and is sponsored by Daniel & Henry. Thank you to Dana Grimm. Our monthly Luncheon will be on the 21st also at Catering to You. Both events are fine networking opportunities, but they only work if you attend.
On August 3rd, St. Louis Community College will have Proposition R on the ballot – an $0.08 tax increase. The Community College hasn’t asked for a tax increase in many years and your Chamber Board has endorsed the measure. Make sure that you get out and vote.
Finally, as I conclude my letters each month, I want to encourage you to join one of our many committees. Remember, many hands make the load lighter for everyone.
More later,
Rick
