Chair’s Letter – February 2021
I don’t know how it is for you, but I always find the time right after Christmas and New Year’s depressing. Gone are all the lights and decorations for another year and we sort of settle into the winter doldrums.
However, this year, February packs a punch with a lot of celebrations right in the middle. We have Lincoln’s Birthday on the 12th, which is a State holiday both in Missouri and Illinois. Also on the 12th is the start of the Lunar New Year, which is commonly referred to as Chinese New Year. Maybe you could visit a Chamber member for some Chinese food. Or, if Chinese food isn’t your thing, we have Valentine’s Day on the 14th. You could visit one of our local restaurants with your sweetheart and have a wonderful meal. Don’t forget Presidents’ Day on the 15th. Stop at a bakery or donut shop and pick up something with cherries in it. Then, on the 16th, we have Mardi Gras (laissez les bons temps roullet!). I know that with the current health situation we can’t party like other years, but it is still another opportunity to patronize a local restaurant.
Coming up on the 17th, we have our Awards Luncheon. Please join us as we celebrate our Business Persons of the Year, Chris and Kathy Helfer. We will also be honoring former State Senator Gina Walsh with the Zykan Family Legacy Award; Carl Lathan as the Kathy Behlmann Volunteer of the Year; Scott Palermo as Ambassador of the Year: and Mary Kierath as Rookie of the Year. We will also be recognizing the anniversaries of various members of the Chamber. Tickets are going fast, so get your reservations early.
Get ready for our Scavenger Hunt coming up on March 27th. It will have an Easter theme and we are partnering with the First Christian Church of Florissant to have a family friendly event at the conclusion.
