Chair’s Message – February 2018
Greetings Chamber Comrades,
The year was off to a great start last month with our January installation and awards luncheon, and it was wonderful seeing everyone who was there! The new chamber board was sworn in by Judge Dan Boyle and I shared the following 2018 goals:
Goal 1: Increase membership by 75 new members. We are currently at 486 members. How do we meet this goal? With YOUR help. I think we all know a business or two that can benefit by becoming a chamber member.
Goal 2: Maintain our 85 percent member-retention rate. It’s our job to offer a chamber experience that justifies each of you maintaining your membership and getting involved. If you have feedback or suggestions on chamber programs or initiatives, or ideas for new offerings, please see me or any of the other board members. We want to hear from you!
Goal 3: Introduce breakfast meetings this year as an alternative to luncheon meetings in an effort to increase participation from those who can’t attend during the noon hour. I’m really looking forward to our first breakfast meeting being planned for June and then again in August! We are committed to enhancing the chamber experience for those who can join us in the morning hours at the beginning of the work day.
Goal 4: Grow our Ambassador Committee and strengthen our Leads 1 & 2 groups. In many ways, ALL OF US ARE AMBASSADORS for the chamber, and if you’re looking for a way to get involved, this is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow chamber members while lending a hand. The Ambassador Committee welcomes new members and assists them with meeting existing members at various chamber events. The Leads 1 & 2 groups are comprised of dynamic chamber members who get together regularly to help grow their own businesses, while helping fellow members do the same – it’s really a win-win for everyone who gets involved!
Goal 5: Continue involvement within our community. The goal here is to increase chamber visibility by volunteering time to the community. Our Community Services Committee is focusing on identifying ways we can support the community by volunteering time and talents at a local non-profit in a way that positively impacts our community and helps improve the lives of some of our fellow residents.
Goal 6: Explore providing seminars, workshops and other opportunities for members to grow their businesses. We really want to help our members thrive in their business activity and are looking at ways to provide professional development with that goal in mind.
Goal 7: Continue to explore new fundraising opportunities. We will be introducing a NEW FUNDRAISER event planned for this fall to engage the community and other chambers that will include a 5K run and kickball tournament, along with a wine tasting station and some other great activities. Look for more on this exciting event as planning unfolds.
Goal 8: Upcoming events to engage membership and increase participation. It’s important that our members be active and participate in our events – and have some fun at the same time! Upcoming events for the year include:
- Music Trivia April 7
- Golf Tournament June 1
- Scholarship Bowl in August
- Women’s Empowerment Event in September
- Fall Event in October
- Nite of Stars Dec. 7
At the January luncheon, we also recognized the following award winners: Christina and Nathan Bennett, owners of Hendel’s Restaurant, as Business Leaders of the Year; Jon Vogt from Catering To You Banquet Center was awarded the Cathy Behlmann Volunteer of the Year; Tom Gilliland from Vivial was named Ambassador of the Year; and Derick Wellman, owner of Amore’ Pizza was honored with our Rookie of the Year award. Congratulations to all of you!
Our Feb. 21 membership luncheon is sponsored by Total Urgent Care and will be held at Catering To You, 12775 New Halls Ferry Rd. (63033). Stray Rescue is the non-profit of the month and will benefit from some of the luncheon proceeds. We’ll be speed networking at this meeting and it’s really is a fun activity to get to know each other and you’re sure to make some great contacts.
Our next big event is “Saturday Night Fever” Music Trivia on April 7, which is sure to be a fun evening!!! Get your table together and get your tickets so you don’t miss out.
I look forward to the year ahead as your chair and thank you for your support and confidence.
Working together, we can accomplish anything!
